EMDR
EMDR, Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, is a novel type of therapy that was originally developed in 1990 which brings together components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Exposure Therapy. It is particularly effective for dealing with trauma (acute stress) and post-traumatic stress disorder. EMDR emphasizes the role of disempowering strong negative memories, helping to reduce the level of distress that these memories cause within a patient. It is an American Psychiatric Association suggested, and evidenced based treatment, often achieving results quickly for many patients, and can be applied to any stressful life event.
